Day 4 [EM] Coffee->Caffeine->Clues (Expecting)

Jane sits at the back of a trendy cafe by the name of 'The French Impression'. She seemed to be idly swiping through her feeds as she awaited a certain android.

Jane sits at the back of a trendy cafe by the name of 'The French Impression'. She seemed to be idly swiping through her feeds as she awaited a certain android.

A certain android walked in dressed in a pink tank top and a blue skirt just below knee length, her silvery hair in something like viking braids. Spotting Jane, she walked directly toward the woman at the back.

"Good morning, miss Jane", she offers with a gentle, respectful smile. "May I?", she said, gesturing to another chair at the table.

A certain android walked in dressed in a pink tank top and a blue skirt just below knee length, her silvery hair in something like viking braids. Spotting Jane, she walked directly toward the woman at the back.

"Good morning, miss Jane", she offers with a gentle, respectful smile. "May I?", she said, gesturing to another chair at the table.

"Of course! So good of you to come Lina. And you look so well!"
Jane beams.

The bioroid greeted her with a wide smile and took a place besides her.

"I'm sorry to say this when you look so happy, miss Jane, but... the news I have are sad. Your friend, mr Perez... unfortunately, everything indicates he's passed. Probably soon after the accident, it seems, if not on site." She lowered her head slightly in respect. "I'm sorry for your loss, miss Jane", she adds.

After some time for the news to sink in, she spoke again, rising her eyes closer to Jane's again, silver glow reflecting on the table. "There... are some things about the accident that are unclear. I found some footage, as you suggested, but the moment of the accident cannot be seen clearly. Apparently one of the CCTV cameras failed..."

The Lina's tone as she said that suggested there might be more to it - but she let it at that, for now at least.

The bioroid greeted her with a wide smile and took a place besides her.

"I'm sorry to say this when you look so happy, miss Jane, but... the news I have are sad. Your friend, mr Perez... unfortunately, everything indicates he's passed. Probably soon after the accident, it seems, if not on site." She lowered her head slightly in respect. "I'm sorry for your loss, miss Jane", she adds.

After some time for the news to sink in, she spoke again, rising her eyes closer to Jane's again, silver glow reflecting on the table. "There... are some things about the accident that are unclear. I found some footage, as you suggested, but the moment of the accident cannot be seen clearly. Apparently one of the CCTV cameras failed..."

The Lina's tone as she said that suggested there might be more to it - but she let it at that, for now at least.

"O-Oh...I see."
The statement sits for a few long moments as Jane seems shocked

"That's, well. I just-."
Another pause
"Thank you for finding out, I imagine it wasn't easy. You said there is footage but a camera failed? Is that normal?"

"There is. And it might happen, but... it's a funny coincidence. I thought you might think so as well."

She tilted her head slightly, resting it on her hand. "See... the failure in question was apparently an intrusion. Quite a coincidence..."

"That's, well. I just-."
Another pause
"Thank you for finding out, I imagine it wasn't easy. You said there is footage but a camera failed? Is that normal?"

"There is. And it might happen, but... it's a funny coincidence. I thought you might think so as well."

"Well, sometimes coincidences happen but...I mean, it does seem unlikely when you say it like that. Does that mean that it wasn't an 'accident'? That he was actually....oh. He was just..."
Jane lapses into silence, still clearly playing the part of the griever.

The bioroid's eyes went down to the table, her face a mix of worry and sadness. Should she not have shared that? She didn't want to cause further pain, but... wouldn't the man's friend want to know the truth of the matter?

"Miss Jane...", she said with a comforting voice. "I'm not sure, not really. Would knowing what happened for sure help soothe your pain? Or, since he's passed... would you rather just leave it at that? Whatever we do will not bring him back, so..."

She tried to sense how the woman felt. She did sense there was something odd in all this, and... as an overseer, she did feel it was somehow within her scope to find out what had happened. But if the woman would be more comfortable not knowing, maybe she should go after that herself?...

The bioroid's eyes went down to the table, her face a mix of worry and sadness. Should she not have shared that? She didn't want to cause further pain, but... wouldn't the man's friend want to know the truth of the matter?

"Miss Jane...", she said with a comforting voice. "I'm not sure, not really. Would knowing what happened for sure help soothe your pain? Or, since he's passed... would you rather just leave it at that? Whatever we do will not bring him back, so..."

She tried to sense how the woman felt. She did sense there was something odd in all this, and... as an overseer, she did feel it was somehow within her scope to find out what had happened. But if the woman would be more comfortable not knowing, maybe she should go after that herself?...

"I...think I would like to know. If someone went to all this effort to cover up what happened then whatever happened must have been important."
Leaning in and dropping her voice.
"You've been so helpful Lina, but with your job and all this coverup, I worry it might be risky for you to stay involved. I couldn't bear it if you were hurt as well just trying to help me out of the goodness of your heart. You're such a dear."

"I...think I would like to know. If someone went to all this effort to cover up what happened then whatever happened must have been important."
Leaning in and dropping her voice.
"You've been so helpful Lina, but with your job and all this coverup, I worry it might be risky for you to stay involved. I couldn't bear it if you were hurt as well just trying to help me out of the goodness of your heart. You're such a dear."

The bioroid gave the woman a small smile, but shook her head.

"It's just the right thing to do, miss Jane. I owe it to your friend and the city to get to the bottom of this.", she said. As weird as a machine saying that was, her words sounded honest. She then lowered her eyes to the table and lowered her voice as well as she spoke next.

"Well. The intrusion affected exactly the camera that would have caught the moment when the hopper burst into flames. If you want to find out more about it, I might try to get a word in with someone more net-savvy to see if they can find out more. Or... do you know someone yourself?"

She shakes her head at the question and wards off a waitress who had looked ready to approach.

Nineteen waits for the waitress to distance herself from the pair a bit before speaking.

"It does look suspiciously like a cover up, yes. Unfortunately, my specifications do not include net protocols either. Although I might have some luck with some contacts. Do you have anyone of your own you would trust with this, miss Jane? And also... do you have a secure address where I could send the footage to? Or I could copy it directly to your PAD, if you prefer..."

Nineteen waits for the waitress to distance herself from the pair a bit before speaking.

"It does look suspiciously like a cover up, yes. Unfortunately, my specifications do not include net protocols either. Although I might have some luck with some contacts. Do you have anyone of your own you would trust with this, miss Jane? And also... do you have a secure address where I could send the footage to? Or I could copy it directly to your PAD, if you prefer..."

"I can probably find someone, I have a few friends who went into net design after college. I hope it doesn't get them into trouble...
Jane reaches into her purse and extracts her pad to lay it gently on the table
"I'm out quite a lot, so staying direct might work best. This doesn't seem the sort of stuff we want to leave lying around. That and I'm just staying at a hotel, just a latch lock protecting the room from who knows what."

Jane reaches into her purse and extracts her pad to lay it gently on the table
"I'm out quite a lot, so staying direct might work best. This doesn't seem the sort of stuff we want to leave lying around. That and I'm just staying at a hotel, just a latch lock protecting the room from who knows what."

The bioroid took out her own PAD and established a direct connection, then turned both PADs screen down on the table while the file transfer occurred.
"Direct it is, then. I'll see if I can get in touch with a contact as well. And as I said... I owe it to your friend and the city to see this through. I would ask you to get in contact if you find... anything, please"

The bioroid's face is still friendly, but more serious now.

"Direct it is, then. I'll see if I can get in touch with a contact as well. And as I said... I owe it to your friend and the city to see this through. I would ask you to get in contact if you find... anything, please"

The bioroid's face is still friendly, but more serious now.

Jane reaches out and briefly claps Lina on the shoulder
"I'll make sure to let you know. It's the least I can do."

She gives the shoulder a squeeze before sitting back
"At least let me buy you breakfast, or I guess one of those one use food chips? I hear they make their digital coffee even better than the real stuff."

The bioroid answers with a silent chuckle. "Oh... I'm not used to those, to be honest. Probably sounds odd for a civil servant not to be a coffee addict, I guess?" A slightly louder laugh. "But it's not in our programming, so..."

A shrug and a smile. "But thank you nonetheless, miss Jane. Whatever you can find will be payment enough. And... maybe we can count on each other later, if need be?"

A shrug and a smile. "But thank you nonetheless, miss Jane. Whatever you can find will be payment enough. And... maybe we can count on each other later, if need be?"

"I will certainly owe you one. Just call in the future if there's anything you need. And if you're thinking about leaving your current line of work."
