[Day 1] Agenda Event: The World of Tomorrow (City Hall)

In her first year in office, Alice Delgado had been relatively well-appreciated by the populace of New Angeles for the work she had done to improve the city. Some of her changes that were implemented include the redistribution of funding in the NAPD, which saw needful precincts the funding that the needed, and the urban renewal of the Esmeraldas district to provide additional housing options for the middle-class backbone of the city. However, her initiative to implement the same urban renewal to the Docklands of Heinlein was met with a tepid reception in New Angeles. Naturally, many megacorporations and the NAPD see many benefits to reclaiming the subdistrict under direct city management, these perks are all but lost to the average New Angelino resident. Heinlein is admittedly far from Earth, even a few days of travel from the Beanstalk. Some might even consider this a gross mismanagement of funds.

The first order of business of the Committee by order of the mayor to launch a campaign to assuage the concerns surrounding this city project. The project is also meant to provide new housing for both New Angelinos on Earth and those already on Heinlein, as well as provide new jobs. The colony will need its share of labourers, skilled trades, and investors to aid in the smooth completion of the expansion in a timely manner. The mayor is confident that many will see what she intends to achieve with her project, as well as boost her approval ratings in time for reelection.

Time Slot: Please note, this event does not take up a timeslot during the day.

For every two Advantages, the player's next roll gains 1 Boost die. For every two Threats, the player's next roll gains 1 Setback die. Each Triumph gives an additional Campaign Point and each Despair deducts one Campaign Point.

Reading the Audience
The Committee is given the freedom to pursue any demographic, region, any otherwise any target audience that they wish. The mayor has a desire to make this project as relatable and approachable to the public as possible, presenting the opportunity to be involved with the future of New Angeles. While not all prospective audiences are equal in influence or importance, it will provide good optics to look as inclusive as possible.

The Committee member will find and identify their target audience with a Streetwise (Cunning) or Society (Intelligence) check at Average Difficulty (◆◆). Each successful roll (1 or more successes) gives 1 Campaign Point.

Spreading the Message
The Committee member must convince their respective audience (or the general masses if no connection with the target audience could be found) of their intentions and grand goals on the mayor's behalf. This can be done by building rapport with a community, recruiting qualifying candidates, or even grifting certain influential individuals. If the Committee member as access to the Network or the media, they may even put out an advertisement to get their message across. Some celebrities might make for an effective endorsement.

The Committee member can make a skill check with any Social skill at Average Difficulty (◆◆). Each successful roll (1 or more successes) gives 1 Campaign Point.

Results
If the Committee manages to get 8 or more Campaign Points, enough support is gathered and the campaign is proven to be an overall success! The group earns One Agenda Point.

Each committee member who manages to succeed in both skills checks will receive 1 Funding Point. This will become relevant near the end of the game.

Dr. Lux was a good person to appeal to certain demographics. Like various androids, and those friendly towards androids. It really gave that look of the mayor's new committee truly being inclusive and progressive!

However, Evangeline was not the best speaker... at least not with big groups that were showing up to listen to her. This was not at all like a thesis defense or any of that sort. Nor trying to negotiate for research funding, because she had to speak rather than to write up countless emails outlining her research.

She was cute. So that counted for something, right?

Jane's campaign was probably a little less enthusiastic about the mayor's whole scheme than most. Although she targeted it towards would-be travelers anyway, explaining to the Committee she was just 'speaking the peoples' language' and 'just saying what everyone was thinking'. Of course, if it riled up Loonies, so much the better.

Streetwise wrote:Word on the street is that a certain employee is trying to spread progressive politics. It'd be best to ensure those groups fall in line.
Unfortunately for her, the types of circles she approached weren't entirely receptive to the company of a Clone Retrieval Specialist. Said position was apparent to all, given her uniformed look again. Today wasn't a hunt, after all, though she did spice it up a bit with her signature shades.

"Hey," she said to a crowd of activists. Some of them even wore Android Rights stickers and badges on their apparel. How cute. "Sorry to spoil the fun. I'm here on behalf of my employer and the mayor's plans." She cupped the Jinteki logo on her clothes before taking a more formal, wide stance with her hands folded behind her back. "Rest assured that the project can only bring more prosperity to our city. Don't listen to those talking heads. All they want is ratings."

Relaxing into her boring corporate spiel, she pulled out one of her cigarettes and lit it partway through. "Indeed, what I'm really here for is to ensure we all maintain order. Every person and android are essential to the proceedings. To disrupt it will come with consequences. My authorization comes with more than just apprehending rogue units."
Coercion wrote:We can't have afford another blow to our image. They need to understand the consequences before they get uppity again.
She took one long drag and blew the smoke out into the wind. "It's much better if none of us are on edge." Despite the remaining bits of her cigarette, she dropped it onto the ground and stomped right on top of it. "I'm sure one of the cleaning androids will take care of that, hm? They sure know how to behave."

Like, what the hell? Talk to the masses? The MASSES? This isn't what she signed up for? Technically she didn't sign up for anything, but WAS signed up for, but details. Whatever.

Deciding to do the lazy thing and run a meme-ad instead of actually, ugh, going out, Daia quickly set up a video montage of her lounging on popular moon hot spots, and left it that. Luna rules, yo.

Reading how different social groups behaved, their desires, their criticism, which group was supporting governmental policies or not, who to send messages to for a certain project. That all was part of the NAG series' programming - what they were meant to do, rather literally. Their goal in life, one could say.

Was that a life? Was that a goal?

It clearly showed. #Nineteen easily found some poorer neighbourhoods where anti-government propaganda from parts of the media and other detractors had spread like wildfire... and where some carefully placed words about new housing projects and jobs for New Angelinos (borne by naturals, in many cases; bioroids weren't particularly welcome in some of them) could not only halt that fire, but also, hopefully, spread a blaze of optimism.

That... or reminding people of the benefits of what the Mayor had already done for them, and how harmful replacing the trust in Delgado with doubts, rebellion, and bets on someone else could be - endangering even that which they had already received. Not to mention how easy it could be to fall into the bad side of the law (or, well, the government), and how dangerous that could be to one's future prospects. Supporting what's certain - and would surely bring more benefits to the common people - made much more sense, all things considered.

The NAG-series bioroid was better at that sort of cold, stating-facts approach, and so that's what they focused on, along with other of the earlier NAG models and a number of organics, including other government officials and some die-hard supporters of the Mayor. As they had expected, it was rather effective.

Ven had repurposed one of his online gaming avatars for this originally. Luckily he'd mentioned this to his therapist who had quite firmly reminded Ven what kind of game this avatar came from and the Mayor at least expected the Committee to be clothed . . . . so . . . after some rapid rethinking and reprogramming, the now fully clothed avatar was singing and dancing across the screens of many a gamer.

Many a gamer that apparently didn't give a flying whatsit about the Mayor's campaign . . . but the rainbow haired catboi was very cute and the song was good and wow could he dance . . . maybe they'd pay attention to this Moon stuff after all?

Ven watched the viewing figures tick up and down and wondered if he should have left the clothes off anyway . . .

Leo had been assigned to facilitate the implementation of the project, and expedite the removal of any obstacles. He knew what that might end up meaning. But in the meantime, if it meant spreading word about the project, well, he'd do that.

Dressed in light formalwear, if a bit rumpled, Leo found himself in places where other suits might not fit in as well. Bars, divey ones mostly. If they wanted to reach a diverse audience, might as well talk to the people who did nothing but talk. And drink. Just so long as they remembered what he said.

Not that Leo remembered what he said. People had questions. He had answers: whatever they wanted. Would the project bring jobs? Yeah. Would it bring housing? Sure. Would they give every Disenfrancisto who signed up a home cooked meal (with natural ingredients!) and a pony? Leo'd probably have said yes to that. Whatever it took. The lies fell easily from his mouth, just like they always did. Who knows? Maybe some of the things he said were true.

Sliding his almost full glass of beer back from the counter, Leo went back to his apartment.

Connecting into the net, Nadia searches through different online information sources. FriendNet, and other such sources were great sources to utilize for perusing what was more or less a catalog of people. Searching around she found mentions of a particular individual whom was looking into investing into risky projects. When Nadia contacted him originally he seemed incredibly receptive to the idea. Luckily, she felt, from things that were declared online about the individual this would be a perfect sell but she didn't quite grasp onto some of the nuance of the statements made.

Turns out the individual in question absolutely detests clones, and as that seemed to become more apparent he completely closed off, swearing off all the promises he originally made.

The bioroid known as Roger was not particularly well connected. Without knowing who the target audience was, the technological golem had to just use brute force.

While impressively scary, at least by design, he didn't seem to change many hearts or minds.
