House Visit [Day 1, ME]

When they went downstairs again the car was waiting, proper Weyland transportation. Nadia was quiet for the ride. Outside she watched as the city shifted into different shapes, colors, and styles. It always mesmerized her when she could manage the chance to enjoy it and she didn't have to be as attentive when she wasn't in Elizabeth's presence.

Eventually they'd arrive together at their destination, the car slowing to a stop.

Leo had dressed for the occasion. That meant pistols went back in the jacket. More than once, he glanced over at Nadia, eyes narrowed, but if she wasn't talking, neither was he.

As the car stopped, he glanced at her. Then, after a moment, he opened the door, stepping out, cybereye humming very faintly as he visually scanned the area.

Guayaquil was rather infamous for being a haven for crime, slums, and the poor. Admittedly, the district was large enough that it could be a variety of things. Thanks to some of the contracts granted by Delgado, many builders didn't waste any time to quickly performing some gentrification to the district, as well as collapse preexisting habitats to make way to newer and shinier buildings. It seemed the plan was to construct more arcologies so that the residents didn't exactly have to live in the district to live there. However, while newer buildings were being done...the people didn't change and merely mean the poor were displaced further to what was their former haven.



The safehouse was found in a quieter part of the district, in the shadow of many of the taller buildings but elevated enough from the ground level that it wasn't swarmed by the disenfranchiso.

It was was unassuming with a few shuttered stores that didn't seem. The lights were own but who was paying for them exactly?

Nadia was slower to start, giving a glance to the driver briefly before braving a step outside of the car. Feeling the distinct change in the air she halted a moment, acclimating. A soft cough into the top of a closed hand. Nadia steps around the back of the car walking while buttoning the bottom button of her jacket.

Opening the trunk she pulls out a satchel of sorts that seems to have some heft to it. Giving care toward the carrying of the object she takes her time closing the trunk of the car. Moving over toward Leo's side when it was all said and done.

Leo scanned the building and the area, his gaze cool and professional.

"You okay?" He asked, his gravelly voice soft. He didn't look at her.

It seemed almost too obvious from the outside now that Leo had a good look at the place. This place was a facade and a very good one at that. They were probably just short of hiring people to run these false stores. The block was also devoid of parked vehicles and the nearby buildings seem to host no tenants of any sort. Anyone here would need a good reason to be here. There wasn't really an obvious door either, but Leo's keen eyes would easily find a set of double doors on the side with a panel listing various names on them to be buzzed. The names seemed familiar to Nadia, having accessed Perez's files. It seemed that this place might be accessible under "Yellow and Blue Shipping Co".

"Doors there." Leo grunted, pointing them out. "The rest of it's a fake, though. We'll stick out like a burnt capacitor if we're spotted."

He looked at Nadia, narrowing her eyes. "If we do get spotted... how do you want to handle it?" There was a certain grim finality to the way he said it.

As they walk, Nadia's focus seems concrete while she moves. Keeping her head forward. She would say, "My only purpose for being here is to investigate the location and access any information present," and then stop by the double doors. Scanning along the names to find the one that she was looking for, or at least the one that appeared to be the one she was looking for. It was a common thought and one that Nadia almost didn't second guess as her hand went for the buzzer but she stopped half-way.

"I am well," she says in a slightly awkward pause of motion. Sensing the potential for uncertainty she clarified, "You asked before. However, is there a risk from being spotted? I would not know."

Nadia's hand still hovered halfway toward the button.

"Yeah." Leo nodded shortly. "If it's all fake, no one's got any business here except the people who are in on it. And since they'll know we're not them..."

He shrugged.

Nadia pauses, considering for a moment what Elizabeth might do. Figuring that announcing herself might even simply slow things down, if anyone was here, she instead shifts her hand toward the handle of the door but holds back. Eyes lighting up with the silver glow of her iris she scans about for a potential wireless access point that might grant her a path into security, or simply the door if it was locked or alarmed in any way.

There was some strangeness to be felt being on the other side of the security work she was meant for in this moment, but it did give her a little insight into what was possible with the Net.

The door was sturdy and made of hard metals, it was most certainly locked. There was also a set of shuttered garage doors beside it as well. With their keen observation of the facade, these two elements perhaps felt most 'real' as they had actual moving parts rather than just look like they could lead somewhere. The connection to the Network here wasn't dead but faint, pretty peculiar this deep in the city. Nadia could perhaps feel that the connection was coming from the peripheral towers than any in close proximity. She could check the stock market here but streaming a video would be annoyingly laggy.

There was no connection to anything relating to the building, everything seemed eerily enclosed. Leo would also spot that the building had cameras. It was very likely they were already seen from the moment they arrived.

Nadia's lip curls to the side as she takes in the situation. With a glance over her shoulder toward Leo, the calculation's working around in her head become more noticeable as her eyes dim back to a more natural appearance. Reaching again for the buzzer she tries it for the business in question.

If very strongly hoping that someone knew what they were doing were a more active endeavour, Leo would have been very active. Instead, he just stood there, arms crossed and expressionless, except for a bit of blandness when he glanced at Nadia.

Bzzzzzt!

What sounded like an analog bell emitted from the board of buttons and names, very much like those found in the old-fashioned apartments. As the buzz dissipated, the speakers picked up some static as what sounded like someone only momentarily fumbling with a microphone piece. The voice that came from it sounded male, direct, and assertive but not in the same sense as someone working corporate. The bodiless voice probably sounded a bit more imposing with the distortion.

"There wasn't a scheduled meeting. Identify yourselves."

"Nadia Avaline, here on behalf of Elizabeth Mills. Requesting entry," she says, there's that usual detachment in her tone overtaking. Looking ahead at the source of the sound rather than anywhere else to better project her voice without needing to raise it all too much.

[Leo Knight]

"Leo Knight. Likewise." Leo put in shortly, his gravelly voice as bland as his expression.

Again, he glanced at Nadia, then looked away with a shrug.

"..."

There was admittedly an uncomfortable pause, this could be felt when the person on the other side kept their finger on the speaker button.

"...yeah, you're cleared. Standby for instructions and escort once you're inside."

Whirr!!! Click!

There was a different sound of a buzz that came from the door before a heavy bolt would unlock, causing the door to swing slightly open from the internal draft found in the interior of the building. Once inside, they were greeted with a narrow corridor with drab grey plascrete walls and an old tile flooring. There were a few cameras pointed their way, as well as sensors that lined up the walls for scanning. At the end of the hallway was what seemed to be a factory elevator complete with the barred doors that would be lifted up. There was an old mechanical hum as the elevator seemed to be making its way up to greet them.

Standing inside the corridor Nadia would glance around, as was her nature. Taking one of the few moments to get a feeling for the inside of the building. Marking the way it made her feel, the atmosphere, it was.. different. Fidgeting a little with her thumb quietly snapping against her middle finger she watched as the elevator seemed to hum and raise up to them. Breaking from the slight anxiety in that to look to Leo, a brief smile.

"I was worried about this neighborhood," she admits, rather openly and with less detachment to her tone than usual.

When the elevator reached their level, they were greeted by a lone man dressed in a plascrete carapace armour with a laser rifle. It was obvious that this man was from Argus Security with this blue and yellow uniform, as well as the stylized "A". The armour read "Sgt. Curtis". He almost seemed to assume a defensive stance at first until he arrived at the floor.


Sgt. Curtis

"You're both with Elizabeth Mills?" He said as he gave them both a glance, holding his rifle at ease. It seemed like the voice from before. "Alright, I can take you down to the floor but just be aware that it is a blackout zone from here. You will have no connection to the Network. Do you understand?"

[Nadia Avaline]

As the sergeant arrives Nadia's eyes focus in on him, finding that name. A very brief smile crossing her lips before she nods. "Yes," she raises her hand and places it against her chest, "I was sent here by Elizabeth Mills. Leo here is here to maintain my safety," and the hand falls back to her side.

"I understand, Sergeant. Thank you," she says, and would step forward toward him and the elevator.
