The annual New Angeles Expo has always been a platform where many enterprising individuals, intellectuals, and corporate gather in one place to present potential directions to further the growth of the city and further their own goals. The expo is famously known for its flashy exhibits where new technology is presented to the masses but the first night of the expo is more subdued, restricted only to those inside the industry than the general public. However, the expo still has a Network presence and there is much interest circulating Alice Delgado's plans of expanding Heinlein. as well as how she intends to do it.
Much of the spotlight has turned toward the members of the committee formed by Delgado's office. The media and the public wish to know more about these individuals, their qualifications, and their aspirations. Thankfully, the expo also provides a platform where many of the industry attendees are invited to share their ideas, opinions and encourage inspiration. Any participant may take part in the widely publicized Seminar Talks so long as they have something to share relating to the growth of New Angeles, even indirectly. The mayor has desires for her committee to present themselves to the public through these seminars and build further credibility to her cause with their participation.
A presentation in a seminar talk consists of an introduction, an idea and, a conclusion. The participant will be responsible for making their presentation as cohesive and appealing as possible.
Time Slot: Please note, this event does not take up a timeslot during the day. Participants can devote a small portion of their day to their presentation or do it remotely through the Network.
For every two Advantages, the presenter's next roll gains 1 Boost die. For every two Threats, the presenter's next roll gains 1 Setback die. A Triumph makes the roll a success, even if failed as a result. A Despair means the presenter makes a blunder in public and the roll is considered a failure, even if the results dictate it passed. Triumph wins ties here.
The Introduction
The participant makes a skill roll of their choice at Average Difficulty (◆◆), as they present the opening of their seminar, presentation, or speech. This is often the hook and ties into their topic.
Idea
The participant makes a skill roll of their choice at Average Difficulty (◆◆), presenting the meat of their seminar. If this is a skill they’ve used already, this is done at Hard Difficulty (◆◆◆) instead of as they run a risk of repeating their points and potentially lose effectiveness.
Conclusion
The participant makes a skill roll of their choice at Average Difficulty with one upgrade (◆⬟), bringing all their points together. If this skill was used already previously in either above rolls, this is done at Hard Difficulty with one upgrade (◆◆⬟). If this skill was already used twice, this roll is done at Hard Difficulty with two upgrades (◆⬟⬟).
Each successful roll will grant the participant with one Seminar Point.
Results
If the Committee collectively manages to get 12 or more Seminar Points, the Seminar Talks overall have proven to be memorable, thought-provoking, and aspiring enough to leave a long impression on the attendees. The group earns One Agenda Point.
If the participants managed to succeed in all three rolls during their Seminar Talk, their presentation is effective, cohesive, and entertaining enough to be a proven success at New Angeles Expo and to the general public. This also boosts their credibility as a member of the mayor's committee. They are granted 1 Funding Point. This will become relevant near the end of the game.
